Between 2008 and 2011 Rob Davies was part of Grant Associate’s on-site team of consultants managing the delivery of the Gardens By The Bay Project in Singapore. Based on site, Rob’s role as Senior Landscape Architect and Package Leader involved overseeing the detailed design and construction of 2 artificially cooled conservatories set within a new 54 Ha garden development at the heart of Singapore’s Marina Bay area.
The conservatories at Gardens by the Bay are enclosed by two geodesic glass domes, each around 1 hectare in size, that create cooled climate environments for a thematic garden display. The conservatories display around 226,000 plants including transplanted ancient Olive trees transported from Spain, salvaged Baobab Trees from Madagascar and an array of botanical plant specimens.
The Cloud Forest Dome features 50m high vertical gardens and the world’s tallest indoor constructed water feature. The Cloud forest biome leads visitors on a truly unique experience through misty rain forest walks, cantilevered platforms and a sunken ravine.
Gardens by the bay has become an iconic, must see attraction for visitors and residents of Singapore since its completion in 2012. With numerous awards for design, it is now acknowledged as a leading example of innovation and creativity in Landscape Architecture, Architecture and Engineering.
